Karen’s Work

Karen Ashe, MD, PhD, is the director of the N. Bud Grossman Center for Memory Research and Care and holds the Edmund Wallace and Anne Marie Tulloch Chairs in Neurology and Neuroscience at the University of Minnesota, where she has been a faculty member of the Neurology department since 1992.  She received her MD from Harvard University, and her PhD from MIT.  Her mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease have been used the world over for validating genetic linkage studies, for understanding disease pathogenesis, for seeking markers of early disease processes, and for testing candidate therapies.   Among many honors, she has received the MetLife Award for Alzheimer’s disease research, the Potamkin Prize of the American Academy of Neurology, the Khalid Iqbal Lifetime Achievement Award of the Alzheimer’s Association, and is a member of the National Academy of Medicine. In 2022, she co-founded Myriel, Inc. and currently serves as its CEO.
